The State of the (other) Union
A lot of news about today regarding the 'West Lothian Question', the name given to the anomaly whereby Scottish and Welsh MPs can vote on bills that only effect England, something brought about by devolution.
The Tories have come out in favour of 'English votes for English bills' but this itself would cause a problem in that the Tories historically always seem to get a majority in England, so a Labour goverment with a Westminster majority could be defeated on almost every measure of domestic English policy.
Is the only real, democratic solution to dissolve the union?
