I donate to the local Children's Hospital. A lot of the kids are terminal and the treatment they provide is unbelievable. Money goes for a lot of things from helping pay medical bills, improving the facilities, providing extra stuff for patients, and support for families who have to deal with it.
If you have one in the area, you can usually go in and talk to them about donating. They'll give you a tour and run-down of what the money is used for. If you can make it through that with dry eyes, you may not be human.
