Ross is spot on with London - great place to visit but very expensive to live there - especially if your job does not oblige you to be there. Keep in mind your proximity to airports (depends on where you currently call home) and where you would like to visit for weekends and for longer holidays.

Simple "rule of thumb" = further North gets cheaper but the people will welcome you quicker - further South gets more expensive and the people will take longer to get to know you.
