What Do You Do When

you have got to the point you need to bring on help?

I have listened to a nice interview here, 08/11/08 - Marc Womack - Using Cheap Labor To Do Your Bidding (http://www.sin20.com/podcast?page=1). But what can you do when you can't farm that shit out to foreign companies?

I can do that with some design work, and website work via the scriptlance, elance, and so forth. But bigger projects, I have a hard time using them. So I have to look for higher end programmers and developers. But even then, I need a project manager that knows code speak in between to babysit a project.

In response to my other thread (http://www.gfy.com/showthread.php?t=862594) obviously what I do not need is a whale affiliate. I need someone paid by performance on an affiliate model, but looking for more of a SEO, link builder, traffic developer guru.

Affiliates are great, but once the flavor changes, or they get offered more money, you are out. So you get a quick burst of traffic, but that can change month to month. I am looking for slow growth and advancing over a long term. But willing to profit share.

Yes. I know this is not attractive to the 'ballas', BROS, pimphands, and so on. No need to reply. Heard you the first time. Furthermore, no one is going to throw $10, 20, 50k at anyone upfront to come in and do some work, with the 'promise' it will show some fruit in the long term. NO ONE would do that.

But getting back on point...

Your business has grown to the point you have more projects that need attention. You have been asked to shoot more content for private companies, and that means you can make more money, but you have to free up some hours.

Your new projects can also bring you more money, and while you are the creative person, and come up with the brilliance. You are not one for maintainance. So you need someone to babysit that shit and make it grow.

I have some part timer helpers, but they do some grunt work. They do not have internet skills, or understanding, to do some of the things needed. They do not really wanna learn that either. They can do just enough to keep the company running while I am out of town. But as we all know, there is much more to staying ahead of the curve.

So.. if YOU were at this point, or you have been at this point, what is the next step? Where do you start?

What I really need is a good programmer who can work at least part time on my stuff, and a good link builder, SEO person who works on the generating sales end so I can work on more of the big creative juice projects and revenue streams.

Obviously, I am willing to share the profits on the endeavors as things take off. However, there has to be a check-and-balance in place. For example, some person comes in, and does a lot of work at the beginning. Money is rolling, and then they stop, vanish, or whatever. You try and get more out of them, and they simply refuse. (this happens all the fucking time in this biz. If you have not been in it a decade, you probably have not experienced it repeatedly). So you have to have in place an operating agreement that allows for such situations. Stop working. Stop getting paid.

This is business. Not beer money.

Ideas?
