By your own admission and the very basis of environmental psychology, which relies on the loss of responsiblity in the individual within a group dynamic, your "environment" dictates your emotional state. Right?
Well this "Passing" of personal responsibilty onto the shoulders of the group allows for the justification that one is not in control nor can be held responsible for their emotions or behaviour. It is a cope out.
If I lived in an environment of criminals, I myself choose whether to be a criminal or not. Might I be influenced? Certainly... But only ignorance of self can allow for something to "control" you.
