I have a Nikon D300, D2Xs, D200, D80 and D50...
Believe me, DON'T buy that D40, it sucks! Just 5 focus points, slow with the 18-200 VR and the 55-200 VR lens, the dust removal system sucks, etc...... i sold it about 10 days after i bought it.
Go for the D300, believe me, you won't regret it.
