I'm betting that your 3% number is way too high. I'd bet it's less than 1% if even that.
And not because of crazy lifestyles, etc.
I have been seeing sales I make with different sponsors drop precipitously for a year and a half now. I have watched the sponsors presence at shows drop just as quickly reflecting an absence of revenue available for advertising.
It's been a slow fall to get here. Most every OWNER I have spoken to in person over the last 6 months has told me that they are 40% + DOWN in revenue from a year earlier.
Apparently only Shap is making more money than ever with Twistys, even though I have begun to just delete the affiliate emails from them because putting up the galleries is a waste of my time because for me they sell as well as others seem to....not at all.
I'd say that almost every paysite program out there is definitely running payout to payout. But not by choice, and not necessarily because of bad business decisions on their part either. But because they can't sell what is being given away for free.
