I'm not sure everyone is anti gay, more that people are anti the fundamentalist I'm gay so you must be too you just don't want to admit it attitude.
It just ends up sounding like a version of religious lunacy trying to force one opinion without giving room for a differing opinion.
If someone is gay that's not a problem with me but in the same way that I'm not going to keep pestering them to change their mind I don't need them whining at me.
I'm also fairly sure that there will be gay people who cringe at some of the attention seeking behaviour and just want to get on with their life without a huge look at me I'm gay fuss.
