He is a retired detective, she is an heress.... It's basically a comedy/murder mystery where they spend most of the movie drunk off of their asses.
Great great film IMHO.
OH.... and also "Best Years of Our Lives" is another totally awesome tearjerker of WWII vets returning home and trying to fit back into society.
