"Modern families" may be changing, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good thing. Being the child of single parents, divorced parents... not exactly fun. It makes for a very awkward and challenging childhood. Now I certainly don't think that couples should stay together simply because they have kids if they don't get along, but I do think you should at least try to avoid putting your kids in that situation. If it happens, it happens... but don't walk into it.
