and the problem with outlook re-installs is that i have to re-add all email accounts and rules - or get some extra software which does that. i might do it, but if the update procedure would have worked as it is supposed to, this would not have been necessary to even think about. for now i am happy that i have the old outlook back

yeah there are a few apps that back up the rules and accounts.

I dump the older stuff and the last few years. I can pull up stuff from the late 90's etc form the saved .pst's I have on file
