Now put your tinfoil hat on but it's heavily rumored that Nevada, 80% of the state's area is owned by the federal government has the largest untapped gold mines in the world. Kind of makes you wonder why they so heavily guard the remote military bases there.
We already sell our best anthracite to china, or so I have read. It's arguably true that 40 years from now we will be so weakened that if china wants our coal, or our real treasure our fresh water, we wont be able to stop them - but they wont have to invade, we'll happily sell it to them.

war with asia is inevitable, but it won't be our personal weapons that stops it, nor will it be by invasion. they will just outbid us and out-position us for the last good oil and the important strategic metals like tantalum and neodymium and the other rare earths. They'll control us by strategy, not invasion.

gold is not a terribly valuable or important metal strategically, so I didn't even consider it.

and personal weapons are no match for military weapons systems.

I suppose it's conceivable that china could occupy the west coast, but it's hard to imagine why they would want to. We'll sell them anything to keep our consumer society consuming.
