Maybe not censoring the thumbnails but censoring out the larger version may have better results with the full size versions on html with a "see more" rather than a stand alone pic.
Sorry, just thinking out loud.

Don't be sorry, think out loud. Thinking is good, and I "think" a lot of people trying to promote porn don't think at all when they just throw tons of shit up with a bit of keyword stuffed content for the search engines, hoping it will sell itself.
I have no doubt that the bounce rate will shoot through the roof. But are those people who bounce really traffic worth anything anyways? What about the few who remain? Have you increased their buying potential? Is giving it all away the right way to do things? My line of thought is that if executed properly, you should be able to create enough desire to hopefully have them land on the join page looking for "more" and make the impulse buy. I don't care how much traffic I have, I care how many sales it makes.
This would only work I think in certain areas, and choosing the right keywords, niche, and sites to promote would weigh in heavily.
I like your idea of leaving the thumbs uncensored, and censoring the larger images. That in my mind would keep them on the page a little longer, as opposed to have them bounce immediately upon loading the page.
It could be complete and utter fail right from the start, but in this line of marketing I think people need to start considering some new options for creating demand for the product in their pre-sale. I'm still working out exactly how I want to go about doing this, and I have some ideas. I'll give it a try. Don't expect me to come running back with the announcement if it works though.
