F.A.Q. Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ:
Q. What is the cost of the Takedown Piracy service?
A. Standard monthly rates vary depending on the size of your studio and the breadth and scope of your piracy problem. Other services often charge 3 to 4 times as much. Our system was developed with the goal of minimal costs involved so that we can offer a rate that makes sense for all studios both large and small.
Q. Why is your rate so low?
A. Our low rate should send you two messages. One, is that we’re not trying to get rich off your plight. We want to solve this problem and get you back into the business of making money. Secondly, with a low rate like this, it should be a no-brainer to you and every other content owner. We believe with widespread cooperation, our industry can get on top of this problem. We realize it’s hard to get studios to work together, so we’re setting ourselves up to be the proxy that brings everyone together.
Q. Do I have to sign up for a long-term contract?
A. No. There is no set number of months you have to be a customer. You can opt out at any time.
Q. How do I know you’re actually doing anything for me?
A. We BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) you (the client) on ALL DMCA notices we send on your behalf. That way you can verify the infringements we’re reporting are real and you can see the volume of work that we are doing for you. In addition to that, once a month we send you a report detailing the total amount of infringements removed on your behalf. That report will have a detailed breakdown showing you the types of infringements we’ve removed for you. We also keep a more detailed spreadsheet available to you upon request, this file can get to be pretty large, so we don’t email it to you by default.
Q. If I or my employees find our content somewhere, can we report that to you and you take care of it?
A. Absolutely, we try to be as prompt as possible in responding to anything you report to us. We know this makes you look good in your fans and customer’s eyes and we love making you look good.
Q. Can you provide me with evidence of my content being infringed?
A. We can provide you with screenshots of the URLs which we’re having removed. However, this is not something that can be done quickly and it can results in 10s of 1000s of screenshots that we have to create and store for you. For this reason, we ask that you only request this option if you are serious about bringing litigation. Not for anecdotal curiousity reasons.
Q. Piracy seems pretty rampant, why even try?
A. Piracy is rampant and can often seem like you’re playing Whack-A-Mole. However, in this case you’re not just hitting the moles with rubber mallets but we’re dropping napalm bombs on the whole field. Part of the success of piracy sites can be attributed to them offering a superior surfing experience for users. Our industry largely brought that upon ourselves, now while our industry cleans up it’s sites and innovates to new distribution models, we will be doing our part to make your content difficult for freeloaders to get their hands on. Frustration is a very valuable tool to use in combating piracy, and we excel at that. We’re in this for the cause of protecting the content you worked hard to create. Good content deserves good protection at a good price. That’s where we come in.
Q. What have you actually accomplished with all this?
A. In addition to removing over 1.6 million copyright infringements, several piracy sites now filter out content from our clients. It’s easier for them to just block all the content from select studios than to address DMCAs from us every day.
Q. You say you only monitor 200 or so sites, why not 100,000?
A. It is our belief that focusing on low traffic sites is a waste of our most precious resource – time. We focus on high value targets. Sites with significant traffic and userbases. Essentially, we go where the pirates go. No service can be everywhere all at once, so you have to choose your battles wisely.
Q. How long does it take to get everything set up?
A. Just a few hours. We’ll get some information from you regarding your content and add that to our system. You’ll start receiving copies of our DMCAs usually that same day.
