Times have change greatly in the past two years in terms of affiliate managers. I'm sure many people will tell you their "back in the day" stories when they were making 6 figures. But in terms of today's affiliate manager I found most were making base salaries as low as $9 to $10 per hour and then bonuses based off of performance.
Since most companies are very short sited and only want you to go after new affiliates, leaving you no time to really maintain the relationships you have with current affiliates or those you have already brought in, those guys quickly die off leaving you no real chance at long term earnings potential.
There are a few smarter program owners out there so it may be worth your time to try and seek out that kind of employment if you have some affiliate manager experience behind you.
These are the kind of programs who pay a base salary of well I know one girl who makes a base salary of $2,500 a month plus 10% of everything her affiliates make. She spends almost all of her time working the affiliates they already have and helping them to make more money. She does rather well for herself. I am told her income is early in the 6 figure category.
There aren't many companies who realize the importance of maintaining relationships with current affiliates and helping them to reach their true potential, but there are some and my advice to anyone out there with experience in the affiliate game should shift their efforts to finding work with one of those companies because I can't imagine work with the others guys is going to be around much longer. Those kind of jobs seem to be dying off quickly.
