The benefits of the banks in Miami is that they are used to foreigners opening bank accounts.

You will need to provide two forms of ID, mainly a passport as to where you reside. If you do go with Chase or any local bank make a point to get the card of the person who helps you open the account. It's not as easy as it used to open an account as a foreigner, so you will need the help of the bank representative and you will need to keep in contact with them.

My experience with Chase, even with an account representative helping me out is that they will require more paperwork even after they have opened your account. If you are not in the country to sign those documents it will be hard to do it via the mail.

With HSBC, the deposit check was returned do to not showing US citizenship/residency which didn't make any sense to me.

Citibank in particular will be helpful and will even provide you a Debit Card with a $25 month fee if I recall correctly. The only issue is the $25 fee which they will tell you it is because you are a foreigner. I'm sure you can talk yourself out of it.

SunTrust is great, but they will kill your account with the first bounce check, no questions asked.

Everyone's experience is different and the last foreigner I helped to get an account was a year ago.

Do keep in mind that all the local banks will accept your money, you just want to avoid the letter 30 days from opening the account letting you know that you are still missing documents.

And Good Luck.
