My impression: The guy is an attention whore with a bad case of self-proclaimed martyr syndrom. He sees himself as some sort of outrageous victim being crucified by the man when in fact he can simply apply for welfare.
Failing completely to even peripherally mention any details of what the nature of his business was is... fishy.
Final conclusion: The guy is an idiot.
