I hate cops with a passion, but put yourself in his shoes. He's responding to a 911 call, doesn't know if you own the house or if you just hacked up the family inside, and your dog rushes him.
Can't say he would be justified in shooting the dog, but I can see how he may pull the trigger if he thought he was at risk. I'd rather be a cop with a dead dog on my hands instead of a cop with a chunk of my leg missing.
