I agree, I've had a lot of ups and downs since getting into this industry in 2005, but I wouldn't trade it in for the world. Aside from the travel, and having folks all over the world that you can call friend, and probably crash on their couch if you ever needed to, I am grateful that I can work anywhere and at anytime (and often in my pajamas).
Also, being female, this has been the most empowering industry to work in.
