Even more perspective: ASSUMING THIS IS TRUE, he doesn't even have a excuse like "I stole because my family was in need" or "I killed in self defense" or even "I murdered because my dog told me so". He knowingly broke a law doing something he was prepared for, but in an illegal way (for the laws in his country, not for ours, of course). He could have programmed a phone app or something legal. He chose not to. Well, as fucked up as it sounds, now he has to face the consequences. ASSUMING THIS IS TRUE.

You didn't read the article did you? It said he wrote a photo upload script that was later used by a porn site with out his knowledge. It wasn't him running a porn site but someone used his software to run one.
