Man Claims God Instructed Him to Sexually Abuse Girl
MESA - Mesa Police have arrested a 36-year-old man accused of molesting a teenage girl -- and he says God made him do it.
Police say Gabriel Soza told the victim he was being directed by God and instructed by the spirit.
Investigators believe the victim was abused for 2 years, from age 14 to 16, before police were notified. The victim's grandparents read her diary, which hinted at sexual abuse, and notified police.
According to court documents, Soza admitted to the sexual misconduct while on the phone with the victim.
During a police interview, he allegedly told detectives, he "initially did not want to follow the spiritual prompting, but they continued until he acted on them."
Soza now faces 2 counts of sexual abuse and 4 counts of sexual conduct with a minor.
