every one of these people have an online business, or some sort of online/offline company. almost every single persons blames the economy or Walmart for taking their business.
most of what I'm telling them, especially for these local businesses is how to advertise outside their own store. one restaurant that I go to often, I know the owner. he was just complaining about a new place that opened up down the street and is taking his customers away. actually its not, the new bar has a big sign displaying their happy hour prices and they do a lot of marketing both online and off.
problem is most people are stuck in this "rut" of when things used to work well and they don't want to make a change. same with people in adult, just because it worked 5 or 10 years ago doesnt mean it will now.
I actually heard of a group of business owners trying to get together to sue Groupon. they claim its unfair as they can not make money selling gift cards or what not for 50% off. what they dont understand is it may cost you a few bucks to bring someone in the first time, but they will keep coming back
