I'm really not sure what you are referring to, I don't see anything different at all.
Impression wise? You can buy based on day, week, month. You can buy based on total impressions. You can buy based on budget. You can bid based on auction style.
How has that changed in the last 10 years? It's gotten better, if anything. You can target by Geo, browser, operating system, language, keyword tags, etc.
