Yeah that's pretty much my perspective as well. The law has its purposes, obviously.
Remember a number of years ago when there was all this mainstream media commotion about online under-age predators? It mostly focused on Myspace, and the stories were always matter of fact one-sided, always talking about older men preying on weak-minded and unsuspecting under-age women.
I think if they would have looked into it a bit further, they would find the opposite to be true in most of these situations. The reality is that these girls were changing their ages to be 18-21 to try to attract older men. They are, in a lot of cases, the instigators.
I used to be huge on reporting these to Myspace and having these girls profiles deleted on a regular basis, because this was a game they'd play with people. They'd have their age set at 21 in the profile, and you'd dig through their blog and find out they're actually 16... and were actively seeking relationships with older men. They knew
exactly what they were doing.
But I've never once heard a media outlet mention that detail.
