The ignorant must understand that China "owned" the island before Japan invaded it and took it over in WWII. From a historical point-of-view, China has precedence over the island since they were the first to claim it. Although, since WWII China has not tried to re-claim the island, technically "giving it up" to Japan, even though Japan lost the war. China had their chance but they did not take action. Therefor, in my opinion, it belongs to Japan.
