It's a sales role. It's about cold calling, hustling, negotiating and closing deals. Affiliates don't need management. They need information and occasional assistance with special requests.

A program gets what they pay for. A good affiliate manager will only work for a program that he believes in and will take a % of sales. A great affiliate manager will get paid for life on those sales, not just the length of his employment.

Yes, there is still a need for them. If the program is still relevant in today market.
