Yes, it is a mad thing to do. There was a guy I knew, always had his mobile phone clipped to his trouser pocket, that's where he got Cancer, lost his leg, then his life. He was only in his 30's.
While I avoid mobile phones, I did once have to carry a Blackberry for work. Obviously it's fine if it's completely switched off, but if it's on then that's a problem. When I was walking with the blackberry switched on, I would never have it in a pocket near to any fatty tissue, I would instead carry it in my hand, as there's not much fatty tissue there and one doesn't hear much of 'Hand Cancer'.
Of course, the mobile firms will cover it up, they've got $Billions to make and they don't want this getting in the way. They will know from their research exactly what the dangers of mobile phones are, but they'll keep the papers under lock and key.
