Two things we need for sure is a requirement to register firearms, and more legal responsability behind the firearms - meaning, if your firearm is not secured and is used to kill twenty school children well then you go to prison for that crime too.
As for the registration, it boggles my mind this isn't a federal requirement. My father died in Vietnam and he left behind a number of handguns. Forty-five years alter no one in my family can tell me what happened to them. That's scary.
