Small plane crashes in Fort Lauderdale

A plane crashed in Fort Lauderdale during the Friday afternoon rush hour.
Preliminary reports indicate it was a small private plane perhaps a Cessna that appeared to crash on takeoff from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.
It hit the ground in a parking lot east of the airport near a warehouse on the 5300 block of N. Powerline Road, just north of Commercial Blvd.
More than a dozen vehicles were burning. The aircraft wreckage was concealed by thick smoke at the crash scene.
It is too early to know an exact number of casualties aboard the plane or on the ground.
