It is not odd at all. The media mentions it daily, it's just not the main focus of the news. Because NK first of all, isn't going to do a damn thing - and second of all they are surrounded by countries that would stomp their ass if they did try anything. SK+US to the south, Japan+US to the east, China to the west and north.
It might be news to you guys because there is a crazy guy threatening the region with nuclear war, but that is news to you simply because of precedence. No mater how full of it the guy may be, threatening nuclear war in your region has to be in the news. For the majority of Americans, North Korea is the crazy guy on the street corner always yelling at people. We've had so many years and generations of family that have lived and served in SK that we all know what it is. Every couple of months, they're going to start babbling about how they're going to destroy the west and blah blah blah blah. If NK wasn't threatening us it would be weird. But NK threatening the region to us is adorable.
That sucks for you to have a crazy guy threatening everyone in the area with nuclear war, but for us it's the same old crazy guy doing the same old thing 4,000 miles away.
