what i mean by that is often times we think we know what's best for sex workers and we want to ~*rescue*~ them from it and get them clean and sober and blah blah.

But what we (we, as in outreach groups, etc) should be doing is asking them what they want or need... not assuming. Maybe they just need some condoms and clean socks, you know? My university major was addictions counseling with a major focus on homeless and street populations, which always includes street level sex workers. And sure, many of them don't want to be doing it... but they're also not READY to get out, and trying to force or drag them from it doesn't fix anything at all. But lending a shoulder to cry on, giving some condoms, that's important.
Focusing on their needs and wants, not our ideas and high horses.
