When people find out I build adult websites they immediately get the wrong idea in their head. They tend to think it is a little less cool when I tell them it is mostly me sitting in front of a computer uploading and writing text and most of the conventions and get-togethers are just a bunch of dudes sitting around talking about geo-targeted traffic and other boring stuff.

My all time favorite response came from a guy who was a friend of my buddy's co-worker. I met him one night at a birthday party for a mutual friend. He owns a small limousine service that he is trying to grow and someone told him I do web design. We start talking about building him a site and he asks me what kind of sites I build. I tell him I do some mainstream stuff, but mostly adult sites. He gets this shocked look on his face and exclaims, "Like, with dicks!?!" I said, "Well, sometimes there are dicks involved." He then said, "I don't want dicks on my site!" I couldn't help but start laughing.
