We base our idea of 'time' according to the orbit of our planet around our star. Totally acceptable if you know nothing about anything but that... A few flaws in out year that a child could point out are that months contain varying numbers of days, and that there are twelve of them. Fucking stupid.

In planetary terms, we need a 10 "month" calendar. It's the only appropriate format. I say "month" because we need to do away with that idea. Months are caveman shit.

Beyond that, we need another calendar to accurately portray our stars position in the galaxy. As the galaxy rotates, our star moves up and down, taking the Earth along for the ride. An intelligent civilization would be doing right by minding this, since it's a little important. According to out current understanding of time, we know that about every 65 million years or so, something happens on Earth that really fucks shit up. The vast majority of extinction events are evenly spaced around 65 million years from one another. We also know that according to our suns position relative to the galactic plain, we always seem to be in the same area when these events take place.

I think that humanity would be better served if we threw out the current calendar and built a new one, based solely upon our stars position in the galaxy, and based entirely off the idea that no number larger than 10 be used to express any full cycle.

After that we can redo the calendar that we know in the image of the calendar we build for understanding galactic time.

So I have to agree. The calendar is fucked.
