the one area they have been good in is policing greedy banks, to some extent, but even then it's come up short.
tomorrow at the SOTU, obama will propose a corporate tax rate cut down to 28%, but then he will propose a series of rate hikes that fuck over the small business owner. so the rich get richer, and the kinda rich get fucked. i read that of 32 million business tax returns, 2million will get a cut, and 30m will get fucked. great way to spur job growth. im sure we'll hear that the 'rich' can 'pay a little more' and "pay their fair share." - the way he typically oversimplifies everything to the mob.
he'll use those tax hikes to create a bigger government, which will be pointless, since the government is trash at everything. thankfully, without House support, it likely won't get passed - as this is a rehashed plan from 2 years ago that no one took seriously, and given how poor people think of him, the republicans might be able to claim the Senate in 2014.
The Republicans also now have a replacement health care plan that is actually a bit more logical, and a step down from Obamacare, but not a total repeal. It allows people to not be denied for coverage one-time, which means if you have continuous coverage, and then get sick, insurance companies always have to take you, even if you switch between plans (personal and business, or just switch different companies). This means you cant just get sick, and then pick up coverage, so it helps to keep everyones costs down and rewards responsbility by having continuous coverage from when you are healthy. It also allows kids to stay on until 26, and kills off all the mandates that require you to have insurance, and/or penalize you if you dont. It won't insure as many people, but if you aren't irresponsible and actually value health insurance and being a "net contributor" before you start sucking down health services, it will work out great.

The way it sounds the republican healthcare plan will be not much, if any better for a few reasons.
First, If you have a one-time ability to not be denied coverage then many people will simply not buy it until they get sick or hurt then keep it afterwards. Also, having to maintain the coverage or risk not being accepted again is basically a mandate without calling it a mandate. If you let your coverage lapse then try to get coverage again down the road they would be able to deny you for any number of reasons.
Second, You don't mention it, but what about those who can't afford coverage? Is there medicaid option or something in place for those who can't afford to buy health insurance?
Third, It appears to do nothing about the rising costs of healthcare. Premiums are going up because the cost of healthcare is going through the roof. The other day I saw something that was kind of interesting. The cost of a hip replacement in the US is around $42K. The same exact procedure in Spain is about $7K. So it would actually be cheaper to buy a ticket to Spain, live their for a year, learn Spanish, get your hip replaced then run with the bulls than it is to get your hip replaced here. Until something is done about the crazy costs of healthcare and medication the costs of insurance is going to continue to rise.
