Yes, but when they're appying for jobs in Canada like RCMP officer for examply, "basically ceremonial" just isn't good enough.

The Sikhs complained and bitched and cried for years, back in the 80's I think mostly, about being allowed to have beards, wear turbins, carry knives etc etc when applying to the RCMP, and cried descrimination whenever they were denied anything or weren't hired. In the end all sorts of special concessions were made to accomodate them.

As for punjabi's I won't be so bold as to say ALL of them are hot-headed. I've worked with many in my time working at a large local hospital, but one in particular stands out. She was mostly pretty laid back and nice for the most part, but man if you crossed her or there was any percieved slight I found her to quickly go from nice to downright unstable and unreasonable in a matter of seconds. Almost any disagreement or misunderstanding quickly becomes a "matter of honor" to some of them (another guy who worked in maintenance at the hospital comes to mind, flew off the handle at me one time for an innocent misunderstanding).

But I've known a few other punjabis, mostly women, who were as nice and friendly and docile as they come. So I won't paint all with the same brush. Sikhs either for that matter.
