You know there is a saying “When someone pulls you on a string, there are two things you can do; cut it, or play tug of war.” Online world is not always the safest place todo the business. Things could go wrong within a second if you are not careful and smart enough to tackle when the problem arises. Scams are very common these days and even you could be the next victim.WJunction is a very popular forum for people who constantly visit warez websites and want to know more information on warez sites or webmaster information. At WJ you can discuss about warez websites, hosting, technical assistant, webmaster resources etc and additionally, you can buy and sell anything.
On December 14th, 2008, ArtiFax who is a member at WJunction forum posted athreadin order to sell one warez site namely USAWarez.com and USAWarez.net with the unreleased database. As it seemed, the websites had a good Alexa ranking. Everything looked legitimate at first when the members started to bid on the auction thread. ArtiFax consistently claimed that the sites are worth very high and anyone who buys them could literally make$200-$250 per day. Surely the offer was very tempting. The bidding moved on. Members asked why he wanted to sell the site when they were making a perfect income. ArtiFax replied that he didn’t have any time to manage the site and he had some other projects. As cool as it seemed, people got excited about it and the bids went up to $1000. Initially, a senior member,iMack got suspicious and asked where the sites were hosted. ArtiFax explained everything carefully and confidently that USAWarez.com was on GoDaddy and USAWarez.net was on NameCheap. He then continued that the auction was placed only at WJ and he was going to post it in another forum Digital point. Everybody got motivated as those domains were high traffic & had large profit earnings. ArtiFax further explained in his thread that he would send the payment screenshots which would be given for those who were interested to buy those domains. As the site was shut down twice before,he added that it was due to failure to pay server fees. No wonder why a website that makes thousands of dollars a month failed to pay few hundred bucks. He convinced people that WarezScene is huge and his website was even bigger and could make more money which depends how the owner would manage them. As the discussion moved on, ArtiFax continued to add that the highest bid was $1300.Since USAWarez.com and USAWarez.net seemed down at the time of the auction, ArtiFax explained that traffic will increase once they were reopened and that the forums were highly modified and had hundreds of thousands of threads and posts including a valuable database. He explains in his post that truly makes all to believe that this was a legitimate business and not a scam. Despite of some arguments, the bid continued to move on and reached $1,300 and then to $1,400 with a condition to increase the next bid with an increment by $100.As the biding started to increase more, on December 12th 2008, a member oz187bided $1,500 followed by IPB Slaren who bided $1,550. On December 27th 2008, the bid finalized at $1600 by oz187 on the thread. As the bid officially ended on 3 rd of December, the transaction was going to take place between ArtiFax and oz187.
The new Owner of USAWarez.com and USAWarez.net, oz187, who thought he got the best deal at the beginning and was pretty happy about it, didn’t know what was about to come next. Literally, the site was supposed to be running in couple of days but it never happened. Since the deal was completed, money was transferred via Western Union; the new owner anxiously waited for the valuable database to be transferred to him. Then the turbulent starts to fiercely rattle when the database was still out of reach because the new owner didn’t get his hand to the database as it was supposed to be within few days of time. After a long week, oz187 didn’t receive the database and that put his patience into extreme consideration therefore he posted why this was getting so late to transfer the database. Finally, the disaster strikes in the thread because what it seemed like a deliberate ripped-off game. ArtiFax who was believed to be doing a good business happened to what it seem like a scammer. When the deal was completed at $1600, as it seemed in the thread, ArtiFax shows up in the thread claiming that the he had done the deal at $2400 and the owner; oz187still owed $800 to ArtiFax.Now, things started to become clear as a crystal, when oz187 managed to dig important information on ArtiFax. The so called auction thread was locked by moderators until oz187 came with his explanation on his post.
The Scam Plot
After wining the auction at $1600, the buyer oz187 (Stuart Hawkins) sent half payment to ArtiFax (Richard Humphrey) and promised to send the other half after receiving the domains and followed by the valuable database/site files but it didn’t happen. Sooner after the second payment, oz187 found that USAWarez.net was redirected to files4ever.org and was also told by ex-super mod of USAWarez that ArtiFax was selling USAWarez.net and backup/database to other two individuals on the low-key. This was a rather a big concern. Immediately, after doing some research, oz187 called the ArtiFax’s home and inquired with his mom. When ArtiFax showed up online, he explained that the database/site files were held by the server company Hostfresh and the debt was $1500 in order to gain the access. He told oz that the actual owner of USAWarez.net was his friend; Artimus who promised to push the domain but never did. ArtiFax also claimed that the women oz talked over phone was not his mother. All this confusion flows into one direction and that is a well plotted deception, a total scam that no one even imagined at the beginning. You can always trust a dishonest man. It is the honest man you should not trust, for you never know when he would be dishonest. Now ArtiFax proved himself to be a scammer and a liar. Will he be able toget the database from HostFresh where the debt is $1500? Do you think he sold the valuable database to other people on the low-key?During the auction ending, Another USAWarez website was opened at USAWarez.org, This belonged to different owners who were; Justin, UltimA & NeXuS. Oz187wondered why the site was created while UltimA knew that he was going to re-openthe site. Eventually we found out that Justin never knew that USAWarez was coming back so he used his .org domain and brought it back with the help of his fellow friend UltimA. Oz is still waiting for the USAWarez.net and database/site files. Now do you really think oz will get back to the business? Not really sure, we just have to wait and checkout the forum in coming days.
After a few weeks we found out that ArtiFax came back and apologized to oz187. We also found out that To0 made an announcement on USAWarez.com stating that the.com was thrown back into second place, meaning that the .org was in first place. In the thread he mentions that the USAWarez database which he owes oz187 will be imported. The expected date for the database to be imported is 14th February 2009(Valentines Day). Will To0 really import the database? Or does he have a few plans of his own? Who knows To0/ArtiFax maybe using the .org, and he may create his own USAWarez website at the .net domain with the database imported. We questioned the.org owners if they will ever rebrand, UltimA mentioned that they will be rebranding with new features and graphics within a week or two. The new name of .org is expected to be ‘UnitedWarez’.Be sure to check the site within the coming weeks & months! You may miss something BIG!
