The best thing to do is call around try to get in contact with shelters and groups that specialize in helping homeless kids. You can ask them what they need most. If you have cash and were going to buy coats and blankets they might have bigger needs for other things, or they might use it to buy for specific people. If you have extra blankets and coats they can tell you the best place to donate them so they can be put to use ASAP.
