I thought the DOS version of Norton Utilities, even up to version 8.0, was pretty decent. Personally, I think Symantec/Norton jumped the shark with Norton Navigator (I think that was the name) -- it was their attempt to control the GUI/Desktop of Windows and replace the default Windows Explorer.
Everything they've produced since then has been really bloated (my opinion).
Frankly, for basic maintenance for most people, I like the "Manager" series of software from
Yamicsoft. I use Windows 8 Manager pretty regularly these days as part of my maintenance routines.
