I am not going to deny that there's racism and xenophobia in many Western countries. But how come some of these immigrants (even first-generation ones, having arrived as adults) do get ahead and succeed, while others claim racism and discrimination?

Yes, it is our fault, but only in part. It's a two way street, we give you, but fucking give something back. If you resign to circumstances and refuse to work for your own success, what's the probability that you'll do well even if you get more help?

and while I agree to a certain degree to the rest, it actually applies also to a lot of germans that refuse to work and live from government handouts - while complaining about immigrants
