When I installed the Alexa toolbar, I brought my freshly-launched sites to the 200-300k range after a month or two.
When I uninstalled the toolbar, those sites dropped to 700k-1MM+.
Alexa is not a good metric. Never was, never will be. It's trivial and cheap to pump.
Sounds like OP just needs to install the toolbar to make up those sweet worthless gains.
There are much better metrics to obsess about. How's yall's Google rankings? #1?
