Sure. I work with hundreds of German Shepherds because I do helper work for Schutzhund (being German I assume you know what this sport is) and they are very, very, very smart. Much more so than your average pet dog.
Still though, we have hunting dogs, seeing eye dogs, drug detection dogs, therapy dogs, assistance dogs, etc. Many different breeds are used.
On the other hand, no cats have "jobs". I've heard some people try to suggest that this is because cats are much smarter than dogs and so they just refuse to be taught menial chores. Of course this is ridiculous because using this logic cats would be smarter than humans but not as smart as rocks.
