So, whatever happened to him happened by one of only two things. Self infliction or by cops during one of the stops. I would think a decent coroner would be able to determine the actual cause pretty easily.

Even if the banging around story is true (sounds fishy,) the banging around could actually be the guy having a seizure, trying to get attention or medical help, trying to get help in general, so on and so forth. It's difficult to hurt yourself in a permanent way, especially in a little box.
