I love how the SEO community freaks out at any kind of change. Remember when SSL came around? It seems like a lot of SEOs make it out to seem like Google's out to get them. Everyone has to deal with algorithm changes, we're all in the same boat.
I had some clients freak out about this latest change, thinking the sky is going to start falling because their site wasn't responsive. Got it squared away, but it's like c'mon man, it's not like responsive design is going to become a bigger signal than backlinks or the actual onsite content.
It's not a refresh either; meaning penalized sites don't need to wait til a specific date to get their rankings back. The second the site becomes responsive and Google crawls the pages again, the mobile rankings will change.
