Work with established sponsors as an affiliate even if you do have the money to make a capital investment -- a pay site of your own. Learn with their backing.
You need a couple of hundred (dollars or equivalent) at least to get started. A virtual server account will cost you that to maintain for a year and a domain name for the server. Then you are an Internet presence. Sponsors won't event talk to you until you have that established -- get serious.
