I think the theme needs a change.
The sidebar widget area would be better if it were able to better accommodate 300 x 250 banners, which would then translate better to mobile when the widget area drops below the content. Alternatively providing an option to turn the widget area off and have full width content on single posts would be good.
Also the same on pages. A full width page would probably make more sense as an option.
