My only issue is what I call the "Payne Stewart argument": in '99, pro golfer Payne Stewart's private jet ran into problems, and (I'll leave technical details out), within 10 minutes, F-16's were scrambled to see what was going down and to accompany the jet until it ran out of fuel and crashed.
How do commercial airliners, two years later, pull 180's and head back to major urban areas after being in the air for 45+ minutes and not one single jet is dispatched?
