I can see this happening anywhere though. A paypal security expert was killed in Oakland, CA a few weeks ago when he resisted a robbery. Jon Orbeton. Known well in Computer Security circles.
There was also another tourist killed by the cartel in Mexico recently. He had been missing for sometime and some body parts were found on a beach the DNA tested as the missing tourist guy. This one was in Baja..

This was like the 3rd one that was the same MO.. Last year there was both a US guy and a French guy that were found dead and IDed from body parts in plastic bags.. All separate instances and all were tourists.
