And a lot of people are still questioning why he is still in the race, and why he is doing so well. At the same time a lot of the media is questioning if Trump has the basic ability to be President. The press never did this with Romney or Obama, or any of the other candidates. This man launched his campaign with "Mexicans are rapists". How the fuck is this possible?

They are always in play. Some models are more accurate than others, some times they are completely off.
I will gladly bet my next paycheck that all of the candidates have people tracking all of this - Each and every poll. They are posturing, exploring, trying to figure out what steps to take next - which side of each issue they need to be on, what states to visit next, what color ties to wear. The closer we get to the end, the more accurate these models become.
