He could "give" them only on the second ballot though. Correct me if I am wrong. And "give" is slippery word, no Kasich delegate would be bound to vote for Cruz or anyone else. Of course naturally "anti Trump" sentiment would probably prevail.

I believe you are correct. If it is a contested convention my understanding is that if there is a second ballot then deals start to get made. Give really isn't the right word. It would be more like Kasich would have to convince his delegates to vote for Cruz.
