Funny you asked about A Forest. Because of songs like Boys, Friday I'm In Love, and Just Like Heaven people often incorrectly categorize The Cure as being pop which in turn causes them to be dismissive of their musical prowess. Know what I mean? While I love all their 'pop songs', they are not a 'pop band'. They're beyond genre. They really are.
Anyway I've found that the best way to prove doubters otherwise is to show them a few different versions of Forest. Not only is it awesome but it's long and it's different every time. So basically the opposite of 'pop'. It's also fun to watch how the band has progressed over the years. Here are four of my favorites. Stops at 1992. I need to find a good quality one from this tour. If you can catch a European show and you have the means, you have to fucking do it. Seriously. Just find a way. They are so fucking on point.
Paris, 1979
Tokyo, 1984
Royal Albert Hall, 1986
Here's my favorite. Somewhere, 1992. Love the joy division riff at the end
